Being an international project their consultants were keen to use ANSI locksets. The architect however wanted something more aesthetically pleasing than the industrial, bulky looking handles that generally come with these locks and asked for our advice. Having had previous experience of using UK manufactured ironmongery on ANSI locksets we assured them that we could modify our UK levers to work with ANSI locks, something our competitors on this project were not prepared to commit too. We were then written into the specification and asked to supply samples of each of the chosen lever handles to be approved by the client, Msheireb Properties.
For the contractor, HBK Contracting Company this was their first time using UK manufactured ironmongery so we arranged to visit their factory in Doha to show them how we modify our hardware to work with their lock cases, in this instance they were using the Dorma 9000 series and Vingcard hotel locks (which required a different modification for each). We were able to demonstrate that the functionality would not be compromised and because we could achieve this where others had failed they were happy to place the order for over 3000 sets of lever handles in 10 different styles and several different finishes. For the most expensive apartments we were even able to engrave our levers with the clients unique patterned design. This was a first for us but the results were fantastic.
